Gentlewoman style: the Essēn demi-dressy summer flat
You know how I feel about mules. But I’m, willing to make a one-time exception for this very elegant, comfortable-looking and not badly priced Mary Jane mule from Melbourne-based brand, Essēn.
The toe is elegantly chiselled, with the merest suggestion of toe cleavage. The heel is a city-friendly 5mm, but the killer detail is the delicate strap that sits high on the instep, so from the front you barely know it’s a mule and it seems to secure the shoe in place, while still exposing plenty of ankle.
This feels like a demi-dressy summer shoe that can multi-task with gamine mini shift dresses, ankle-bone grazing columns, cropped jeans and even dressy shorts. The Essēn Mary Jane shoe is hand made to order in Italy, so it’s a pre-order situation for delivery end of July. I just wanted to say that I have not , to date, had to pay any duties when ordering from Essen. The parcels do come from the EU (and I had not, somehow, realised that it was an Australian company??). Anyway, their shoes are great and the MJs above look beautiful too.

This is an elegant looking mule and from the description has memory foam for comfort. I might give these a try myself.
