Gentlewoman style: the elevated shirt (continued)
The elevated shirt trend ain’t disappearing anytime soon. A few tips/observations should you need them…
THE GENEROUS CUT LINEN BIB SHIRT This is the kind of shirt that will get even better with age. Off white shirts are more practical than bright white as you don’t have to worry about keeping that optic white freshness. I love how linen softens with age too. Buy it here.
THE SHIRT THAT THINKS IT’S A JACKET But please don’t call it a ‘shacket’. This reminds me of the martial arts jackets that I’ve always been obsessed with. But a more practical option that you can put on and forget about (as opposed to worrying that the belt will come untied)…
BUCKLED UP I also love the belted shirt detail here. Even though it’s got lots going on, it has a refined simplicity that would be good with classic blue jeans (i.e, the normcore Levi’s 501s I wear practically every day)…
BIG AND BRIGHT (DOUBLE CUFFS OPTIONAL) This red Joseph shirt is very me. I love a silk shirt to elevate my aforementioned jeans (or chino) ensemble and I would totally go there in this look-at-me chilli red. I would probably turn the cuffs back though, which is always my preferred silk shirt look. Add a couple of dainty gold chains and a big ring for extra interest.
STATEMENT SLEEVES Also known as Marmite sleeves as you either love or hate these not-very-practical voluminous sleeves. Great for an Instagram street style pic, not so great for slurping soup. Maybe the drawstrings are functional for hoisting them out of the way and I can’t deny the back of this shirt is fabulous. Do report back if you’ve tried these super-sleeved shirts.
AND FINALLY…
BIG SHIRT, SMALL EVERYTHING ELSE I like the idea of keeping everything else simple if you’re making a big noise with your shirt. So the pale boyfriend jeans that I’m seeing everywhere are perfectly on point. Boyish brogues, loafers, oxfords (without socks finally) are the obvious partner, and I’m rediscovering Chinese red velvet Mary-Jane slippers too (inspired by the posh version seen here in Porter mag).

Like and love the first pic – a quality men shirt is all that is required – hence why I love wearing them – no fussy details and tomboy sexy:)
