Oh Dior! The new watches have landed – just in time for the ‘Ramadan Rush’
“Women are the future of watches, there’s huge potential in women’s watches that is only half exploited today.” So said Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH’s watch unit earlier this year. He must be rubbing his hands this month as the summer influx of middle-Eastern customers arrive to shop up a storm at our luxury department stores.
Just arrived at Harrods in time for the so-called ‘Ramadan rush‘ is the Dior VIII Montaigne collection. My favourite is the frankly stunning VIII Montaigne Grand Bal Plissé Soleil (above and below), which I first spotted at the Dior press day in April. Based on the undulating folds of a ‘New Look’ ballgown skirt, its mother of pearl oscillating weight ‘dances’ when the watch moves – so pretty!
The Dior VIII Montaigne line riffs on a number of Dior house codes (spot the references to the signature cloud grey and the architectural Bar suit) and I love the subtle pastel colours of the sun-brushed steel dials, inspired by couture gowns. And although some say rose gold is a bit passé now, I still like the warm-cool combo of pink gold with steel ‘studs’. The collection is available at Harrods now, then nationwide from mid-July.
