Shop the post: Linen season is upon us
Linen season has arrived and I’m very pleased with my new COS linen-mix pleated trousers* (below). These are described as ‘light beige’ but they’re more of a cream, with a slightly slubby, ‘raw’ texture. I’ve always loved these kind of old school tailored linen trousers. Linen does crease but I think the creases are forgivable if the shape is tailored. These come in dark navy* as well, which I also added to my upgraded summer uniform.
My preferred spring-into-summer combo would be these linen trousers (above) with a boxy cotton tee or camp collar shirt, my black Margaret Howell belt, T-bar sandals*, plus my favourite vintage Type 3 Levi’s jacket. A semi-fitted merino knit would work as well, or my 90s Ralph Lauren flag sweater, which has been retrieved from semi-retirement.
I’m also noticing a lot of tailored linen shorts* and boxy shirts* around at the moment. It’s essential to iron them before wearing, even though they will inevitably crease. I prefer not to wear linen with linen as that may just be a crease too far. Instead, I’d suggest pairing linen trousers and shorts with cotton or silk shirting or a lightweight knit. I’d wear a linen shirt with cotton or wool tailored trousers or a dark indigo jean. This Mango ‘swiss embroidery linen blouse’* that I spotted on a friend last week is also an excellent option; it’s a cotton-linen mix, which takes down the crease factor a notch.
