New name to know for SS19: Plan C
Happy news for fans of Marni’s famous Milanese quirk. The Castiglioni family are back with a new brand – Plan C, encompassing ready-to-wear and some great accessories. I particularly like these chunky Geta-esque shoes and the whimsical illustrated bags. Did somebody say street-style bait?
Having sold Marni to Renzo Rosso’s Only The Brave group two years ago, the new Plan C line is creatively helmed by Carolina Castiglioni, daughter of Marni’s original creative director, Consuelo Castiglioni. It’s definitely got a ‘fresher’ aesthetic, a lighter touch perhaps, although that might be because it’s a summer collection. (There’s no fur to be seen – yet. Remember, Marni started out as a furrier.)
Offbeat combinations are a recurring theme, like a frilled structured camisole with a starched shirt, or a candyfloss-coloured pleat dress with a leather bomber. I like the unkempt playful mood of it all so far, but if you pull apart the styling, the pieces stand very well on their own. Browns has already picked up Plan C for SS19 and I’ve no doubt that Matchesfashion.com, Harvey Nichols et al will follow suit…
