Shop the post: Art of glass
“For my facial oil, which is my main face product, I got a really beautiful Murano glass bottle. When you make your own products, you usually end up putting them in empty kombucha bottles or Mason jars. But I thought for a product I use every day, it would be nice to have something that feels a little more luxurious. So I have this nice bottle in different colours with a glass stopper. Using that twice a day brings me a lot of joy.”
This quote from eco-laundress Theresa Williams, an interviewee from Face Values* was quite the chicest tip in the book. While her husband’s grooming bits and bobs cluttered the bathroom shelf, her lone Murano glass bottle gave the impression of absolute serenity and elegance.
Sculptural coloured glass objets are on my radar as beautiful, tactile and useful vessels that encourage you to be less rushed in your interactions. Murano glass is the gold standard I suppose, with endless options for vintage vases and glasses from your reseller of choice. Contemporary homeware brands have got the Murano bug too – Aquazarra Casa (with tablescape queen Fiona Leahy as co-creative director) has opulent jewel-like wine glasses* (below), while Campbell-Rey has collaborated with Murano glassmaker Laguna B on their delicate pink Cosima highball glasses*, coupes* and wine glasses* (below).
For more robust heft, look to the Danish and Dutch brands. Helle Mardahl’s* bulbous pastel glass jars and vases* never cease to delight, and I love the idea of glugging my regulation eight daily glasses of water (ok, more like two) from Nienke Sikkema x Rira Objects’ Addled water goblet* (top and below).
Unlike the Bagliones of Petersham Nurseries, you don’t need shelves groaning with glass – just one fabulous personal piece is enough to spark joy. The Bagliones are selling pieces from their vast vintage Murano glass collection with prices starting at £125 – see more here.
