Books and Bowie at Louis Vuitton
Love books? Love Bowie? Love Vuitton? Here’s a treat for you then. Louis Vuitton has tapped David Bowie as its latest guest curator for its Curated Bookshelf. A secret gem in itself, the ‘Librarie’ can be found in the Louis Vuitton Maison in London’s New Bond Street, one of a number of Vuitton book stores that reflect different themes.
The London one is dedicated to contemporary art and artists and Bowie joins the likes of Tracey Emin, Cindy Sherman and Tim Noble and Sue Webster in selecting his favourite books to be displayed.
So what’s on his shelf? Oh you know, just a little light reading – The Old Testament, some German literature, a gothic horror novel, tied by a loose thread of shifting identities that nods to Bowie’s own epic reinventions. The hardest book to find (they were all sourced by Vuitton from David Bowie’s reading list) was Octobriana and the Russian Underground, a comic strip tale of a Russian superheroine. But all the books are available to buy and the shelf will be fully stocked for the next 6 weeks…
