Quote of the day: MUA Matthew James on ‘the big dissolve’

Katharine Hepburn

“Of course it gets addictive. You feel like anything wrong with your face can be corrected. And then all you see are imperfections, and you’re like, well, I’ll just get it done — it’s the pursuit of ultraperfection.”
Matthew James, make-up artist, The Cut

My fear of needles and knives has – thankfully – meant I have an inbuilt aversion to anything resembling cosmetic surgery. For others, it’s become normalised. But perhaps now we’re seeing a more considered approach, if not a reversal…? The Cut unpicks the trend for dissolving migrating fillers and the counter-trend for – gag – buccal fat removal to achieve a Katharine Hepburn-esque* defined jawline. Non-paywall link here.

*Disclaimer: not suggesting for a moment that Katharine Hepburn had any kind of tweakments
