Unseasonably warm winter weather is a win for sale shoppers

Best winter coat buys in the sale

What to buy in the sales? Easy, all the winter coats, woolies and down jackets that didn’t shift during the fourth quarter. As the New York Times reports, this winter has been quite the bummer for fashion retailers. When those chunky knits and colour-pop furry jackets don’t sell, there’s nothing for it but to bung them in the sale. The winners? Us! Here’s a helping hand…

I’m always surprised to see classics in the sale but these chunky Fair Isle sweaters are definitely on markdown. The green & Daughter one looks like the perfect fit. For colourful featherweight’ cashmeres, I like J Crew’s which come in 19 shades. This range of fashion-forward shades is very rare for such a classic cut. The reviews are pretty good and it’s currently selling at £114.

I like padded coats that are light as air and a bit roomy. The Sacai Luck one looks like it fits the bill and I love this dark shade of khaki. (Note, the trim is cotton blend lamb fur.) For a furry fix that’s animal-free, how about these colourful options from Shrimps and MSMG? And then there’s the parka. Why are practical coats never pretty? This parka from Adam Lippes is a bit like wearing a Dutch flower painting, but hey, what’s wrong with that? The cut is great with its generous drape and gathered waist. And back to the classics. For the ultimate risk-free classic coat, you can do worse than invest in a piece of Jil Sander. Something like this little double-faced camel cashmere number, perhaps…?
