If you had to limit yourself to only one beauty thingy, what would it be?
Mine would be a pot or stick of something shiny.
Any sheer, illuminating balm works for me – to go on lids, lips, cheekbones, inner corners of the eye. Chanel’s Cruise 19 beauty collection is sublime and all about the illuminating tools, with an overarching colour palette of earthy-meets-ethereal bronzes, silvers, oysters and taupes. Noisy Huda-style make-up this is not! But it is timeless and investment-worthy, with lush, blendable textures.
This ‘Vision D’Asie: Lumiere Et Contraste’ collection came out a month or so ago, but I’ve been taking my time playing with it (these are PR samples). Most-used is the Chanel Ombré Premiere Gloss in Lunaire (£28, below), literally like applying particles of moon dust to your lids. Like the Baume Essentiel Multi Use Glow Stick but with a tad more oomph, you can finger-apply this sheer gel-cream wherever you like for gentle luminescence. I like it as a wash all over my lids and on tops of cheekbones. The gold variety, ‘Solaire’ is a yellow-gold ‘lit’ shade, if you want more warmth.
The Creation Exclusive Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quad in Lumiere Naturelles (£47, below) is what it says on the tin. Two metallic (bronze and platinum), plus two neutrals (rosy beige and caramel) for endless easy and versatile looks. Note the interlocking Cs on the platinum shade – love! The taupe-y platinum is a casual no-brainer, while the bronze is a rich, deeply pigmented option for a summer take on a smoky eye.
There are also two limited edition bronzing duos, ‘Creation Exclusive Duo Bronze et Lumiere’ (£52). Day to day I don’t really use bronzing duos or contour. I prefer the cult Chanel Tan De Soleil solid cream or the original Les Beiges powder. But for travel or commuting, a combo of matte bronzer with pearlised highlighter is great for giving subtle definition on the go. Especially in summer when you have a bit of colour and aren’t wearing much makeup. There’s no reason you couldn’t use these on eyes too. The one shown below is the darker ‘Medium’ colourway, while ‘Clair’ (not shown) is the fairer peachy shade.
Nail-wise, this is Afterglow (£22, below), a really lovely rose-beige with miniscule iridescent specks of gold. Classic Chanel with a twist and my current daily nail colour. And for lips I have Rouge Coco Flash in ‘Contraste’ (£31), a 90s-style burnt sienna in Chanel’s new mimosa, jojoba and sunflower-infused formula.
