Meet Christian Louboutin’s Madame Mouse
I’m not-very-secretly relieved to see the demise of the monopoly of the ‘plat-heel’ shoe. Those overstated stilettos with a stacked platform (also known as stripper heels) have just become ubiquitous on the high street to the point that it’s almost impossible to find high heels with normal soles. Well that’s slowly changing. At this week’s AW13 press days, the buyers and PRs I’ve spoken to have told me that they’re seeing a move away from the stack-soled stiletto to a more elegant (and “less aggressive”) single-sole pump. To compensate for the lack of oomph from the platform sole, these shoes often have a killer poker-straight heel or pointy toe, or they come in exotic, colourful skins or eye-catching prints.
The trend has already been creeping in for SS13. I love Christian Louboutin’s interpretation with his Madame Mouse shoe, a coquettish patent pump with a mesh insert and mouse ‘ears’, which definitely reminds me of a certain cartoon lady-mouse. As well as the 120mm heel, they also come in a more manageable 45mm height – aren’t they fun?
UPDATE: This is one of my most popular posts but alas, the Madame Mouse shoe is no longer! However, there are plenty of other Christian Louboutin classic-but-coquettish pumps to be found. Here’s my edit…

Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen anything non-platform featured in so long, but I am loving these so hard.
