Buy it now: Jo Malone London Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense
Jo Malone London’s new Cologne Intense is an instant favourite. Myrrh and Tonka is just the tonic for the most depressing time of the year (this coming Monday is known as ‘Blue Monday’), it’s warm, cosy and comforting yet extremely sophisticated.
The first spray is quite full and sweet, then it settles into the sensual gourmand notes of the tonka bean. What is tonka bean? It’s the seed of the South American ‘Dipteryx odorata’ plant which gives off the familiar nutty, vanilla-like notes that are so prevalent in many cult perfumes such as Thierry Mugler’s Angel.
The press release also mentions top notes of lavender which to be honest I can’t detect at all (a shame as I love lavender). But I will say this is lighter than my other gourmand favourites, e.g. Dries van Noten by Frederic Malle and Pardon by Nasomotto. This does a similar job but is less heady so more suitable for everyday.
If you like combining Jo Malone fragrances, I’m told this is a great match with Basil & Neroli or Grapefruit.
Also noteworthy, Jo Malone London Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense comes in a smaller 50ml size (£74, HERE and HERE) as well as the usual 100ml (£105, HERE).
