A limited-edition 50th anniversary Cartier Pebble watch is coming

Cartier Pebble 2022

Cartier is dropping a brand new iteration of its 1970s Cartier Pebble.

From November 2022, 150 individually numbered, 18-carat yellow gold editions of the new Pebble will be available. The new Cartier Pebble, like the original, will feature the smooth, round-edged 36mm case with tilted square dial in an off-white eggshell opaline, according to Hodinkee. (Actually, at 36mm, it’s a tad bigger than its predecessor.) It also comes with a buckle strap rather than the OG deployant clasp. The combination of tactile, geometric curves with handsome camel calf leather strap has a timeless elegance with contemporary gender-neutral appeal. (I do think an accompanying smaller version would have been a great idea though.)

One for hardcore collectors, this 50th anniversary Cartier Pebble drops in November, priced at £40,000, in a limited edition of 150 pieces.

P.S. if you’re up for some Cartier Pebble storytime, Francesca Cartier Brickell (author of The Cartiers*) has a great provenance tale on her blog from last year. The part about the scruffy young apprentice lad hopping on a 38 bus to deliver watches, straps and whatnot from the workshop in Clerkenwell to the store in Bond Street (no Securicor vans back then) is a delight.
