Brand new bag

Boss aw16 camera bag

When it comes to bags versus shoes, I’m much more of a bag girl. Bags are practical, they’re harder working, while shoes only really do one job. A new bag feels a bit like a new back-to-school pencil case, symbolising potential and possibility. Oh, the places we’ll go!

I’m a self-confessed double-bagger. I like a chuck-everything-in tote (I use this Smythson one – tip: the zip version is a really great price right now ) as well as a smaller, easy-access cross body bag. I love all the camera bags doing the rounds – such as these newbies from Hugo Boss, which I spotted a while ago at the press day. Much less spendy are these chunky beauties from J. Crew (called the ‘Signet’) that come in fifteen varieties. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Marni Trunk Mini, and although they’re hella ubiquitous, the Guccis are just so user-friendly!

Tote-wise, Hill & Friends is the new line from Emma Hill (ex-Mulberry) and the smiley face hardware and upbeat colour palette of the Happy Zippy bag are a good foil to the sensible proportions. (If you’re colour-shy, I think the maroon is just perfect.) While I was in Paris a couple of weeks ago, I came across the Herve Chapelier store, which is tote heaven. So many permutations of their signature tote, I loved all the grained leathers…
