Buy it now: Gifts for guys

Men's gift guide

If shopping for men’s gifts overwhelms you, take my advice and stick to the classics. Forget fickle ‘It’ brands and head to Mr Porter which sells everything from John Smedley socks to BMW cars* and IWC Schaffhausen watches for those with the most discerning, discreet style. Classics needn’t mean boring if you go for contemporary colours or details. I love the pink socks and sweater here and the deep maroon of the Vans shoes (they seem more grown up). That said, the simplest version of an iconic piece is always a good idea, such as Levi’s’ perfectly-formed grey sweatshirt.

Mr DRG is the man who has everything (including excellent taste – obvs). For him I buy ceramics or skincare products I know he likes – he gets through Kiehl’s Facial Fuel like nobody’s business. A scarf is always well received as are books on design, photography or architecture.

Headphones have become a huge fashion category (Master & Dynamic has become the go-to for guys) and cameras still seem to be popular despite the advances in camera phones. The Leica Sofort instant camera I mentioned last week is proving to be a hit if you can track one down. (It’s just arrived at Selfridges).

Failing all that, go for food. My failsafes are Charbonnel & Walker chocs, a fine Keen’s cheddar or the one-bite-and-you’re-hooked salted caramel panettone from Selfridges.
