Super normal
If, like me, you’re into ‘super normal’ design that looks good but more importantly has built-in long-term performance, then you need to check out the quietly hidden Jasper Morrison shop/showroom in Kingsland Road.
I went for a nosy a few years ago and felt that ‘I have to buy something, anything!‘, feeling. So I bought my trusty yellow stapler that uses teeny tiny mini staples that I use at least once a day. Studio Nicholson reminded me of the shop in this post…
My other super normal fetish is the Manufactum website, a Blissful German rabbithole of practical, well made essentials, from Armor Lux Breton tops to my fave almond-scented, solvent-free glue.
The Jasper Morrison shop is at 24b Kingsland Road, London E2 8DA

Dear Disneyrollergirl,
Just read your “super normal” post and wanted to give you a hint: In Marseille there is an old shop selling kitchen ustensils, some clothes, old fashioned children’s toys, gardening stuff, knives and and and. It dates back to the beginning of the 19th century and is in the same family for the sixth generation now. I have been there this autumn and it was like a wonder, like being in a museum (Manufactum is NOTHING beside it). Even the location is very old. It is called “La maison Empereur” (website: http://www.empereur.fr/ – but one has to FEEL the real ambiance, the website is only a very weak glimpse) and it is almost a reason in itself to go to Marseille … Greetings from Munich! P.S.: Loved your book!

This is the beauty of blogging! How would I ever have known about this if not for generous souls like you? A visit to Marseille is clearly needed…
