On my radar: Alekos Fassianos
I enjoyed discovering the work of Greece’s famous artist Alekos Fassianos in the FT last weekend. Depicting wind-blown hair, flowing scarves and watches, his figures and faces share the illustrative qualities of mid-century Picasso or Cocteau.
The work doesn’t end with painting. Fassianos also created excellent furniture*, ceramics*, bronze bird sculptures and lamps. (Fun fact: the lamps were important – Fassianos didn’t approve of elements meant to create an ‘atmosphere’, so candles, chandeliers and low lighting were out, in favour of daylight or functional lighting.) 1stDibs has a number of Fassianos pieces, including reproduction lamps here*.
