Malcolm McLaren and JD Salinger remembered
Touching Malcolm McLaren obituary in yesterday’s Observer…
And one on JD Salinger by Lilian Ross
“Stylists are facilitators. They channel energy, they pick up on trends way before they happen on the catwalk. They’re the key people in the industry who have something to say.”
Caryn Franklin on Fashion Creator of the Year, Nicola Formichetti
I have spent the last three months writing about silk shirts for God knows how many publications. So it makes sense that I finally bought one. Thanks to stockpiling generous gift vouchers from two Matches press days, I was able to self-gift this Freda at Matches ‘Agnes’ black silk shirt by Jo Sykes (now creative director of Aquascutum)…
And what a lovely gift it is. It’s an exact fit and beautifully made and although it’s totally of the moment, I hope reckon it will transcend fashion to become one of those reliable staples that lasts (moths permitting). I’ll be wearing it for day under a boyish red V neck cardigan, tucked into slim crop jeans with Bass Weejuns and a charm necklace or two, or for evening part-unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, tucked into black tapered chinos plus Rupert Sanderson heels and my silver Margiela bracelet. Perfection!
I’m loving the new type of slow-mo moving image being employed for fashion shoots. I first saw it used by Vogue Homme Japan and Burberry’s AW10 3D ad campaign and now Shopbop has done something similar with its new interactive lookbook feature. It looks like a still image but when you hover the mouse over it, the model moves in a rather compelling way – like a halfway house between a still and a moving image.
What do we all think?
