Ankle socks for every age

I found this great photo in National Geographic at the hairdressers (I go to Cuts in Dean St – v good if you want short hair). It reminded me that I’ve been planning a post on women in ankle socks and pumps. There are actually quite a few high profile fashion women who have made this their ‘look’ and I don’t think it looks infantile. In fact, I think it looks really cool and self assured. Take a look at Katie Grand, Lucinda Chambers, Consuelo Castiglioni, Carla Sozzani and Miuccia Prada…

At the Vogue Festival in May, all the editors wore pale spiky stilettos and Lucinda Chambers looked fantastic in hers, with contrasting dark ankle socks. I noticed that most of the outfits above match the sock-n-shoe look with an on-the-knee or over-the-knee skirt and a long sleeved top. I love how Consuelo wears hers with a prim white shirt but the fun is in the experimentation. I will say that I’m a bit of a sock afficionado and can recommend Falke if you’re willing to pay for quality. If you’re on a budget though, these & Other Stories classic socks look pretty good as well…

On the shoe front, I think a 100cm heel is probably the most walkable but I like the slightly lower pumps too. I love D’Orsay cutaway pumps buts there don’t seem to be many around. Maybe they’ve all been snapped up in the sales? These 3.1 Phillip Lim D’Orsays are currently half price at £212.50 in the Netaporter sale…

Alternatively, there are these pale pointy options from Jimmy Choo, Asos, New Look, and Gianvito Rossi. Any preferences?
