Let’s make it here
Loved the piece in the Telegraph on Eric Musgrave’s Let’s Make It Here initiative. Musgrave, director general of the UK Fashion & Textile Association, set up the service to matchmake designers, fashion buyers and sourcing managers with Britain manufacturers. ‘It is very important that people realise that hundreds of companies do still make fabrics, components and clothing in the UK – not everything is made in China,’ says Musgrave. ‘The UK is one of the best sources of fine clothing in the world. Its inherent quality equates to good value – a fact that is often better appreciated abroad, where the Made in UK label is a status symbol.’

Hear, hear! I was gutted when, after saving for a what seemed like a lifetime, for my Mulberry handbag it had a made in China label inside. "Noooo!" I thought – surely a premium British brand should be made here? Why had I paid so much for that bag is they had paid so little? Gready and profit hungry is the image I now have of Mulberry. It usually at junk and charity shops I see the Made in England label which, to me, gives an item so much more cache. Other countries for years have pushed for home industry – New Zealand has carried Kiwi made labels since the late 80s.

Really pleased to hear that some of our beloved items are still made in the UK- you do start to feel a bit guilty when everything is 'made in China'.
