Quite often at the shows, you look for the trends you want to wear. I was desperate to see the return of the twinset after I spied a little homage to the twinset in the window of Pringle (above). After a couple of days of no-shows, the twinset finally emerged at the Clements Ribiero presentation. Success! Strictly speaking they weren’t twinsets in the trad sense as they were decidely mismatched but there were cardigans and there were sweaters and they were worn together so why split hairs? They were lovely. Cat-prints and eyes were the standout motifs, all offset with inky wingy and smoky eye make-up and scary black lips (what do we call this? Spring goth?). The twinset also appeared at menswear label Sibling’s presentation (below). As designer Joe Bates admitted, “it’s me needing a twinset that started the whole thing off”. Actually, it’s the idea of a twinset as menswear that I really love. I’d wear one with mannish cigarette pants and my Maxmara-from-Bicester-Village brothel creepers to give it a non-prim twist.
The See by Chloe studded boots have just landed at Feathers. If The Times is to be believed, statement heels are over and it’s all about androgynous footwear for autumn-winter. Amen to that…
This latest batch of high street hook-ups has certainly made me sit up and take notice. After Beth Ditto for Evans on Wednesday, I went to a breakfast salon show on Thursday to launch Roksanda Ilincic for Whistles. Totally spot on, these seven limited-run cocktail dresses retail from £175-£300 and are the perfect marriage of Roksanda’s luxe touch with Whistles’ commercial clout. One nice element is that each dress is made in a colour to complement a particular skin tone. As Roksanda is a bit of a whizz with the old colour palette, this translates as a rainbow of orange, pink, turquoise, navy, chartreuse and jet black.
The location, Bob Bob Ricard in Upper James Street was beautiful, a newish restaurant serving things like Valrhona chocolate milkshakes (ooh!), posh burgers and comfort food with a twist and where breakfast is available all day and you can make your own toast using one of the toasters placed in each booth. Fun! As there were only seven dresses, the wafty model walk-through didn’t take very long but they then considerately stood in a row along the bar at the end. Cue all the online press stampeding to get the all-important we-saw-it-first snaps. I nearly headbutted poor Susie Bubble in the melee but managed to get out unscathed. Very pleased with the goody bag, containing a glossy black corsage pin which chimes nicely with my emerging trend for ‘neck jewellery‘! The collection arrives in early September and will be stocked in the Whistles flagship store in St Christopher’s Place as well as other Whistles branches plus Harrods, Selfridges and Brown Thomas.
