First look: Wallis Simpson’s style in Madonna’s W.E
Tom Munro has shot a lush editorial for Vanity Fair featuring Andrea Riseborough and James D’Arcy as Wallis and Edward Simpson. As promised, the costumes are stunning. Madonna hired her longtime stylist and celebrated costume designer Arianne Phillips to recreate the Simpsons’ revered style for the film W.E, which looks at the couple’s relationship with modern day parallels.
Wallis was known for her friendships with designers and couturiers (not to mention her penchant for a Cartier brooch or two) so this must have been a dream to research. Now I’m dying to see the sketchbooks and moodboards…

As much as I love the idea of a film about Wallis Simpson; after seeing the C4 series ‘Any Human Heart’, I can’t see anyone but Gillian Anderson playing the Dutchess…I don’t know, she just looks a little too warm in this shoot to epitomise the enigma.
Thanks for posting about it!
