Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. VALENTINO X ZANDRA RHODES
If you loved the Zandra Rhodes prints at the Valentino SS17 show, then you can see more behind the inspiration and process on the Zandra Rhodes website. The word ‘collaboration’ gets thrown around a lot, but this is a true collab, where both sides are equally supportive and excited about it.
2. STUDIO NICHOLSON INTRODUCES MENSWEAR
Yippee! The fabulous Nick Wakeman is bringing her exacting menswear sensibility to Studio Nicholson menswear from January 2017. Heading up the division as Product Director is Charlie Mellor, formerly of Fred Perry (and the man who secured all those Raf and Comme colabs). Read more here.
3. MAC X HELMUT NEWTON
Make-up brands collaborating with photographers is quite the thing these days. Following Charlotte Tilbury and Norman Parkinson, and NARS and Steven Klein, we now have a collaboration between MAC and the Helmut Newton estate. The collection is out now and features liquid lipsticks, nail polishes and an eye shadow quad that reflect Newton’s signature colour palette of neutrals and dramatic reds. I like the colours but it’s such a shame that the palettes themselves don’t feature Newton’s photography (although the boxes do – one can only guess there were political and creative wrangles on both sides). 4. GOOGLE’S VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSET
Looks like Google has learnt lessons from Google Glass and designed its new virtual reality headset with some actual taste. In three colours, the ‘Daydream View’ is designed to work with Google’s new phone, the Pixel and Pixel XL, aka is the first phone created for the mobile VR platform that Google introduced in May.
