Trending at Valentino SS21: super shirts, jumbo rock studs and a Levi’s collab
While the fashion industry grapples with What The Future of Fashion Will Look Like, Valentino has a very straightforward suggestion. What if it’s as simple as the egalitarian shirt?
In lieu of the usual full throttle romanticism, Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino SS21 show was a lesson in relative wearability. Alongside pared back mini shift dresses, he reinvented the humble shirt, ranging from couture-craftsmanship to casual cabana.
Like everyone else, I zeroed in on the pink taffeta throw-on number (below), but also a relaxed applique shirt-jacket (above), the bibbed guipure lace, the silk rose-covered cabana shirt and the intricate crochet creation dressed down with shorts and trainers.
Shirts are easy. We understand them, they’re not size-ist and they translate across different occasions. And of course, the elevated variety are as Zoom-friendly as they come.
To complete this very commercial offering: Rock Stud slouchy tote bags and a Levi’s collab. Valentino is bringing back the 1960s 517 boot cut jean in a clean-cut true blue denim. You can’t get more egalitarian than that.
