Raf Simons X Sterling Ruby: An art-fashion clash made in heaven

Raf-Simons-Sterling-Ruby

I could write a thesis-length post on Raf Simons and Sterling Ruby’s epic joint AW14 collection, but I won’t. Instead I recommend you read all about in Tim Blanks’ Style.com report. Or just enjoy the pictures. Suffice to say, the conceptual art student is alive and kicking on the catwalk and if you love collage, Pollock-meets-Clash paint splatters, Lichtenstein primary colours and provocative wordplay, then it’s all here for ya, wrapped up in dun-coloured cashmere and nubby tweed. Raf Simons’ SS14 ad campaign has landed (and the first new season drop)

The Raf Simons SS14 campaign images are in! And although those boots are doing nothing for me, I absolutely love the half-half effect of the headshot and landscape graphics. The campaign was shot in Antwerp by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo…

Trending for ss14: the intersection between art and fashion. Oh yes, I’m well up for this. Ok, art and fashion have always been rampant bedfellows, but from here on in, I think we’re going to see a lot more fash-art hook-ups. Sorry purists but art just got fashionable.

To whet our appetites, we’ve had the Dior-Warhol collab for Aw13 and the art-inspired collection from Prada for ss14. Not to mention Chanel’s art gallery-themed ss14 show and the Chanel Bond Street store that’s practically an art gallery in itself.

And hot on the heels of Paris Fashion Week we have… FRIEZE! (more…)
