Remembering Laura Ashley

Laura-Ashley-Memories

Now here’s a most excellent Facebook campaign for people of a certain age. To commemorate its 60th anniversary, Laura Ashley has created the Laura Ashley Memories Facebook Campaign, inviting fans to share pictures and memories of their favourite Laura Ashley smock/curtains/wedding dress/tea cosy/whatever. This is such a simple, sweet idea from a heritage brand with a truly connected fan base – people really do have a fondness for their Laura Ashley.

Those who share their photos and memories can potentially win a £1000 gift card and a tour of the London archive (now that’s a fabulous prize, no?). Here’s a couple of submissions already – the 80s is the most popular decade by far…

First look: Miss Vogue

**SPOILER ALERT** Ding dong! The inaugural issue of Miss Vogue has been published and my verdict is in. First impressions: it looks like Teen Vogue! I was expecting a full-size issue and something thinner, so it’s good to see a perfect-bound spine. Glamour magazine: How Cara Reinvented Cool

Glamour magazine commissioned me to write a few words on Cara Delevingne, in which I tried to pinpoint the essence of her success. Conclusion? It’s a combo of everygirl personality plus a super-social media presence that her fans love to engage with. And from a brand point of view, rather like some uber-bloggers, Cara has the cash factor – when she wears something, it sells. (As streetwear brand Hardware LDN told me, “when Cara was spotted wearing Hardwear LDN at London Fashion Week, we sold 200 units within the hour”.) No wonder she gets repeat-booked by brands like DKNY, Chanel and Burberry – it’s all about the ROI, baby!

Just dropped: Agyness Deyn for Dr Martens SS13

Just arrived at Dr Martens… this new collection by Agyness Deyn. This time, her inspiration was Harajuku, hence the chunky naive sandals, Minnie Mouse bows and loveheart motifs. I’m glad to see that Dr Martens has hit its stride in recent seasons, aligning itself with the modern heritage movement and successfully catering to old and new customers (the stores in Westfield Stratford and Carnaby Street are pitch perfect).
