Breaking news: MBEs awarded to Tatty Devine

What excellent news for Tatty Devine. The jewellery duo Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine have been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours for services to fashion. While perspex jewellery might be quite a mainstream thing now, these girls pioneered a certain fun, youthful look that has been copied far and wide since their launch in 1999.

Their aesthetic is a finely tuned take on London eccentricity, with pop art and youth culture constantly revisited and reinterpreted in their own charming, colour-saturated way. Over the years the designers have also experimented with other creative initiatives and collaborations. Their Brewer Street shop was always my favourite place to discover the fun and unexpected (including the work of their art/design/fashion mates) when I worked in Soho, now they have stores in Brick Lane and Monmouth Street, not to mention worldwide stockists.

Most recently they have joined the mass customisation revolution with a permanent space at Selfridges where you can have one of their famous perspex name necklaces made for you on the spot.

Huge congratulations ladies!
