Ideas to steal from Dior men’s Resort 2022

1 Dior Men's Resort 2022

The Dior men’s Resort 2022 collection was revealed with zero fanfare earlier this week. No show, no party, no influencers, just a look book on Vogue.com. It’s the Resort collection, so it’s the commercial collection built on crowd-pleasing pieces rather than conceptual showmanship. But that doesn’t mean it was short of appeal. Here are my top takeaways…

Dior Men's Resort 2022

THE GOURMAND COLOUR PALETTE.
The colour palette for this collection was just…mouth-watering. In fragrance-speak, the word ‘gourmand’ denotes sweet foodie smells, like vanilla, chocolate, ginger and almond and I think we need a similar word for colour language. It would perfectly sum up these caramel and macaron tones with a palate-cleanser of fresh cream and pale grey to stop things getting too saccharine.

POST-SWEATPANT TROUSERS.
Design-wise, there’s an elegantly sporty thread running through the collection, which makes sense given Dior’s new hypebeast target customer and our year-in-lockdown appetite for comfort. I’m a big fan of this full-legged, relaxed trouser shape that almost looks like a tailored sweat pant with a knife edge crease down the front. Vogue reports that footwear is Dior men’s fastest growing category but although this trendy Dior B30 trainer will be big news, I would pair a statement pink trouser with something super-classic like a Jack Purcell.

CONTRAST STYLING.
The styling of this collection is so slick. These Resort collections are the commercial collections, so they aren’t meant to be groundbreaking. I liked the combination of classic tailoring with technical outerwear, cable knit sweaters layered over clingy turtlenecks, loud college cardis with quiet little necklaces (men’s jewellery has been on the up for a while), and underscoring it all, the seriously chic overcoats with now-signature scarf slot.

BAGS WITH BENEFITS.
Finally, bags. Even though I don’t love the Dior Saddle Bag shape, I don’t mind it so much reincarnated as a belt bag. Personally, I love the practicality of a bum bag/belt bag; I think it’s one of the most useful hands-free shapes as it lends itself to so many ways of wearing it. On the flip side, there’s a new handheld ‘Inglot’ bag, a classic weekender shape that looks beautiful in the glossy croc (skin? Print? Who knows these days?). Apparently it has slots for Apple AirTags to make it trackable via the iPhone ‘Find My’ app. Muggers begone!

Love these posts. I don’t look to men’s for inspiration and should.
