Fran Summers UK Vogue Alasdair McLellan

I feel a bit guilty saying this, but Alasdair McLennan’s story in UK Vogue’s September issue was my favourite. Even if, as a commenter on The Fashion Spot described it, “[it’s the] same editorial he’s been doing this entire decade”. (Ouch.) I know I should be raving about the Rihanna shoot or the Anton Corbijn shoot (which is lush) but sometimes I just want some tried and tested retro heritage candy, which this delivers.

McLellan’s shoot, ‘There’s No Place Like Home’ starring Fran Summers, is a classic rural Brit story that channels nostalgic Billy Liar-era cinema, with the styling to match (watch the video here). Give me a sensible argyle sweater, a camel duffel and a smudgy mocha eye, plus a cliched prop or two (vintage car, check; bag of chips, check) and I’m sold. Must be my age…
