Coming soon: Selfridges Shoe Galleries

Londoners are all a-twitter at the news of Selfridges’ new ‘Shoe Galleries‘. Much more than a bog standard shoe department, there are six ‘galleries’ surrounded by 11 boutiques and a hanging garden. The whole shebang combines to create a theatre of shoe shopping, just what’s needed in these dreary times.

The Shoe Galleries open on 16th September but to kick off the fun there is already a Vivienne Westwood shoe exhibition in the Ultra Lounge. And to create even more hullabaloo, Selfridges has launched an interactive online competition where you can win a year’s worth of shoes. To enter, just share the story of your favourite shoes and upload a picture if you have one. Mine are above. These are the Prada lip mules that I bought from Harrods more than ten years ago with a juicy pay cheque. I hate mules but I love the print on these and I bought them as a work of art, knowing they’d never even come out of the box. Get a load of those snazzy ‘Harrods green’ velvet shoe trees…

I can't imagine you in a pair of mules! My favourite shoes are my Church's tan Chelsea boots – I'd been looking for a pair for years, and I finally found them last autumn. They remind me of the boots worn by the boys who used to look after the donkeys on Blackpool beach when I was a kid. But now I'm thinking a black pair would be nice too!

Gorgeous works of art – well worth it!

Have had a sneak preview of it all and it is fabulous xx

I've got a pair from that season – they are lilac satin with a mulberry velvet bow – still look great 10 years later!

It used to be my Jill Sander black court shoes – SO comfy – but now that honour belongs to my wedding shoes – first spied upon these very pages!

Like everyone else, I am very excited about this. It's going to be like we've all died and ended up in shoe heaven. Except, we can't wear them. But that's all part of the temptation!

Thanks for your comment the other day, I agree with you and think some of the hair styles are over done too.

WOW, those are gorgeous. I loved all the prints in that collection but the lips were most definitely my favourites.

My favourite shoes right now are probably my All Saints boots. Highly practical and they actually look better scruffy so I'm not worried about messing them up.

What a fab concept! Some say 55,000 others say 100,000 pairs.. alas not a single pair of dance shoes in sight, but still worth a look :)
