London Calling: the movie

How exciting to discover there’s a film in the pipeline on the subject of one of the most influential bands ever – The Clash. Exciting but scary too. It could be as wonderful as Control, or it could be… a disaster. A bit like meeting your hero, or watching the film version of a book you have grown up with, all those high expectations could be met with bitter disappointment. However, the signs are promising so far. Former Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simenon are on board as ‘executive producers and advisers’ so the story should be authentic and just think of all the unseen footage that must be lurking in Jones’ lockup. Now, we just need Don Letts to direct and we’re all set.

Here’s the trailer…

Toast meets Turbeville

I may not buy their clothes but Toast is a label I am totally visually seduced by. From their stores to their catalogues, everything is meticulously art-directed and now they have brought that vision to their website. The brand, which excels in what I call rustic lifestyle chic has introduced editorial features to its site, kicking off with this intriguing film of fashion-turned-art photographer Deborah Turbeville talking about her work. Toast shot its latest catalogue in a house in Mexico, only to find it belonged to the fascinating Turbeville. So… what kind of person lives in a place like this?
