So after three solid months of press days (when all the fashion brands and high street stores show their autumn winter collections), I’m now faced with the prospect of ‘Christmas in July’. This is the same thing but shoe-horned into a month and showcasing the Christmas collections (party dresses and ‘gift ideas’). My prediction for the party season? Cocktail dresses will replace prom dresses as the frock of choice for the cool girl. Luella started it all off with her fuchsia pink concoction and River island and Monsoon have already jumped on the bandwagon. I gotta tell ya, these dresses are something special. Accessorise with a smoky eye and bedhead hair.
The lovely Alber Elbaz, Lanvin’s artistic director, is up to receive the 2007 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. I’ve never heard of this award but whatever. Elbaz is a design genius and always comes across as the sweetest, humblest guy. Go Alber!
I am SICK with excitement at the thought of the Dior couture show on July 2nd. I keep hearing more and more Chinese whispers about this show. From the promise of a full gospel choir, to the dress code of black tie for all the attendees, to the rumour of Christy, Linda, Kate and Naomi WALKING THE RUNWAY!
I must be going through a midlife crisis. I bought my third bourgeois bag yesterday totally on impulse. A quick browse in Rellik (vintage store to the stars) turned into a twenty minute deliberation, not helped by the torrential downpour outside prolonging my visit. Finally I caved.
This 80s(?) Celine bag in never-dates camel with gold hardwear and adjustable/removable strap will work a treat with the new grown up look I’m cultivating. Think Studio 54-era Lauren Hutton in skinny blazer (I need to upgrade my Brooks Brothers one which has gone a bit – ugh- shiny), straight-leg Calvin Klein jeans (my Nudie’s will do for now) and vintage Charles Jourdan court shoes ($60 darlings from Miami, RESULT!!!). Just add a silk shirt unbuttoned to there and flowy, wavy hair (hmm, this bit’s tricky considering I haven’t had long hair since I was 15). Kisses to French Vogue and Emanuelle Alt for the inspiration. For more bourgeois bags check out www.retrodress.com (thanks to teenfashionista.blogspot.com for the heads up).
