Who’s that girl?

When I went to check out the Lawrence Watson music portraits exhibition in East London last week (Maverik Showroom, 68-72 Redchurch Street, E2), I fully expected to see a bunch of scruffy Hoxtonites quaffing the free vodka-apple-juices but the last thing I expected to stumble upon was the next Kim Gordon. This is thirteen year old bassist Isobel who is in a band called…er, The Band. That’s all I know about them right now but they absolutely blew everyone away with their funk-rock groove. How cool is she? I’m on a mission to find out more – I’ll keep you posted.

Shiny and new

Let’s play a game. Guess whose collection this is? Topshop? No. H & M? No. Zara? Don’t be ridiculous. IT’S NEW LOOK! These beauties were the stars of the New Look press show and let me tell you, those guys at New Look have done a sterling job. Just check out that grey coat, totally Jil Sander, no?

Frock horror

Lily Allen’s ‘Lily Loves’ range launches at New Look on 9th May. My mole on the inside told me a story about one of the dresses which was so big that it got stuck when they were testing the delivery process. Apparently the dresses have to go down a chute to get on the delivery lorry and the skirt of this dress was so wide it got jammed. So did they make the dress smaller? Hell no, they made the chute wider! Nice one New Look, I like your style.

Borrowed from the boys

I don’t often write about menswear but I had to tell you about some great boys stuff coming to the high street from River Island and New Look. There are Crombie style coats, graphic print tees, giant man bags – yes red patent ones –and even yellow cardigans. I swear I saw the same mens yellow V-neck cardi at River Island AND New Look’s press previews. That makes it a trend, right? As men are getting more adventurous about fashion, so is the high street which is all the better for us. I need something more interesting to borrow than check shirts and woolly scarves.
