The start of London Fashion Week is my cue to think about coats. It’s historically when the weather turns from mild to treacherous, and of course, when the fashion set gets layered up for their street style close-up. As you may have noticed, I’m quite fascinated by the growing commercialisation of Fashion Week. More than anyone, Topshop has been instrumental in making Fashion Week accessible to all, via its sponsorships and collabs with LFW designers, it’s unsurpassed social media LFW coverage, its just announced Facebook hook-up and most recently, its pop-up shops at the LFW sites. Fashion futurism: DVF’s Google Glass video



I’m convinced that eyewear is going to be the fashion category with the most possibilities for future tech innovation. While I’m not quite sure what’s happened with Lady Gaga’s Polaroid camera glasses, we’re already starting to see an emergence in 3d printed eyewear, but let’s put that aside for now.

This week it’s all about Google Glass, thanks to Diane Von Furstenberg’s NYFW collab with Google. When she took her bow on the catwalk with Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin on Sunday, she was wearing one of the colour-coded eye-pieces. Turns out each Google Glass houses a chip in its frame which was able to record the preparations and goings-on of show day. The final video is here to see and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of Google Glass technology…



AW12 trend report: My Whistles picks




Last weekend I was featured in The Guardian, picking out my favourite high street pieces from Whistles. I chose its boyish coats, tailored tees, a little red long-sleeved dress, a pyjama-style blouse and some minimalist leathergoods as my seasonal edit. (more…)
