My book launch: The New Garconne at Paul Smith
Well, hasn’t October flown by? I can’t lie; I’ve had an excellent month. First there were the fabulous reviews of the book, then the feedback from people actually buying it. Then my mum surprised me with an impromptu visit from her overseas home in time for the launch. And to top it all off, The New Garconne book launch itself.
The launch was hosted, fittingly, by Paul Smith in his ravishing Albemarle Street store. (If you don’t know it, do visit, the womenswear collection is so good, and the store is a masterclass in touchy-feely retail.) There are more than a few Paul Smith mentions in the book and as we used a Paul Smith outfit on the cover, their visual merchandising team had the brainwave of styling the book alongside the exact same suit and shoes from the picture. Genius!
We had a wonderful turnout, including three of my ‘advocates’ from the book, Lyn Harris, Donna Wallace and Phyllis Wang. And my friends at Botanic Lab provided their amazing organic cold press juices which went down very well indeed. A few minutes before my speech, my editors at Laurence King told me that we’re already on a second print run after only a couple of weeks. That’s partly down to the great blog and online support that has undoubtedly helped spread the word – big up you guys!
The bloggerati were out in force including longtime blog buddies That’s Not My Age, The Very Simon G, What’s He Wearing (who came out of retirement for a couple of hours), The Chic Geek and The Women’s Room. Also in attendance were my mates from Glamour, The Independent and Asos, plus a whole load of brilliant PR pals.
Thank you everyone and to Paul Smith, Lisa Baker and Laurence King for hosting and organising such a perfect evening.
