Shop the post: top up your tan

how to wear tan.

My default summer-into-autumn mode is everything tan. Tan leather especially, mixed with burgundy, camel, red, and a bit of denim. Tan leather bags seems to have taken over from black as the most popular neutral so there’s plenty of choice on that front.

I’ve been surgically attached to my Mulberry Small Maple tote (which now seems to be sold out – I told you to be fast!), but the Mulberry Amberley satchel is the next best thing, I love this rich nutty shade of leather with its gold hardware. More affordable is this casual Skagen saddle bag (£111.20), or Nico Giani’s two-way number (£240), which can be used as a top handle, or with a long strap.

On the coat front, I’m eyeing the classic neutral Burberry trench, especially with its new roomy cut. I’m also drawn to Joseph’s Witham reversible shearling/leather jacket for the colder months.

I recently KonMari-ed my sock drawer but would definitely wear these logo Gucci socks with ankle crop jeans and the Dries pumps or chunky Marni sandals for that eccentric Italian aunt look. I’m all about the sensible knitwear so the tan MaxMara sweater would go perfectly. If you prefer a less bulky line, this & Other Stories merino sweater with its demure collar is another versatile piece.

Jewellery-wise, I love simple, sculptural gold or silver pieces with this look. Sophie Buhai’s silver egg necklace is on my want list and would look good with anything.
