On trial: Google Glass for Yves Saint Laurent Beauté make-up lesson

Last week, I donned my beauty editor hat to try out the new Google Glass makeup lesson service at YSL Beauté in Selfridges. The service launched earlier this year in the US and has worked its way to London, exclusively at Selfridges.

You book an appointment which costs £30 (redeemable against purchase). I had my appointment with the charming Fred Letailleur, YSL’s head of make up for northern Europe, who is not only an expert make-up artist, but is now a master Google Glass user. Which is a considerable combination that needs extreme focus. Not only does the make-up artist have to concentrate on what they’re doing to your face, but they’re also operating a tiny camera (embedded inside the ‘glasses’) with discreet movements, and engaging with the customer – answering questions, making you feel at ease etc. (more…)

Yves Saint Laurent Google Glass

You’ve got to hand it to Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, it has come up with a really smart way of using Google Glass. Back in September it introduced its hi-tech take-home tutorials to Bloomingdales (below), in which its make-up artist wielded his magic paints and brushes on customers, while simultaneously filming the one-to-one consultation using Google Glass. Marc Jacobs Beauty

So Marc Jacobs Beauty arrived in London a couple of weeks ago and no one knew. Not even British Beauty Blogger! I stumbled upon the entire range of it in the Marc Jacobs Mount Street store (after a quick recce of Celine – retail heaven). It’s not cheap but the colours are stunning and the lipstick packaging is right up there with Chanel’s push-click cases. The staff are super helpful and encourage you to try the products, but I haven’t yet. I definitely will soon though… (more…)

Buy it now: Three colours red

Here are three killer red lipsticks I’ve been trialling that I can recommend if you love strong Hollywood reds in posh packaging…

First is Rouge Néon (shade 50) from Yves saint Laurent’s Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre line (below, £25). This is a lush vermillion red that has an extremely flattering finish thanks to the addition of yellow, white and pink gold pearls. It’s definitely not pearlised though; the effect is more a subtle ‘lit from within’ radiance that is YSL’s DNA. Obviously, the gold casing is as fabulous as the lipstick inside, I never get bored with it. Buy it here and here
