On view now, Michael Jackson’s stage costumes from the Tompkins & Bush collection at the Getty Images Gallery, Westfield Stratford City. Fashion people are hard to impress and fashion people going to a Philip Treacy show are harder still. Why? Because we have seen the ultimate in Treacy show fabulosity before and think it can’t be beaten. But yes it can and it just was. (more…)
I just spotted these 1970s Bob Marley Nikes (above) on Street Etiquette’s Tumblr. I love the old school running shoe shape and the colour combination (I call these Matthew Williamson colours as he always does pink/jade/turquoise together very well) , probably because they reminded me a bit of my own custom Nike IDs.
Nike launched its custom service in London in 2006 and I was invited to try it out. As you can see, I never got around to wearing them… they were just a bit too jazzy to pull off. Like a lot of things, I imagine they’d look great once they’re a bit kicked about and dirtied but in order to get to that stage, they have to be worn. After I’d made mine I also thought they were similar to a Daisy De Villeneuve artwork…
On a vague pop-stars-and-their-Nikes note, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on these Nike Night Track disco sneakers – as worn by Michael Jackson…
