THE DRG STYLE INDEX: OFF-WHITE, SYKES LONDON, LEBON, AMAZON AND MORE!

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

1. OFF-WHITE X JENNY HOLZER
Off White Jenny Holzer collaboration SS18
I loved all the techy utilitywear in the Off-White SS18 show. And of course the genius Off-White Jenny Holzer collaboration, with poetry she had sourced printed strategically onto clothes and projected on the walls of the Pitti Palace. This W Magazine interview is a great read.

2. JO SYKES IS BACK

Sykes London by Jo Sykes womenswear for on the go career women
Great to hear that Jo Sykes has returned with Sykes London, a contemporary-priced label for the on-the-go career woman. The classic silk shirt that she designed for Freda at Matches Fashion is still one of my most-worn wardrobe staples.

3. WOULD YOU SPEND $10 ON LUXURY VEGAN TOOTHPASTE?

Lebon toothpaste
I’m obsessed with my teeth and I’m not gonna lie, the branding of Lebon toothpaste is extremely seductive. It’s vegan, comes in lots of flavours and I’m sooo tempted by the ‘Sweet Extravagance’ variety which is flavoured with ‘the most exclusive roses from Grasse’. Naturally…

4. AMAZON HAS (HOPEFULLY) SOLVED THE RETURNS CONUNDRUM

Amazon Prime Wardrobe Jeff Bezos
Amazon is planning to solve the challenge of online returns with Amazon Prime Wardrobe, a service that lets customers pay after they’ve tried on and decided what to keep. It will also incentivise by giving a discount based on how many items the customer keeps. Now it just needs to sort out its not-so-inspiring product offer, says Retail Week…(sub req)

IN OTHER NEWS…

More Amazon: this is a super-fascinating (and slightly terrifying) podcast about the power of Amazon and the future of retail.

Farfetch is taking over the world, one nation of shopaholics at a time. Yep, it’s just joined forces with Chinese ecom behemoth JD.com. Read more here.

Is the millennial make-up bubble bursting? After The Estee Edit flopped, its parent brand Estee Lauder announced it’s pumping more funds into Gen X-targeted Victoria Beckham Beauty. And this week along came KKW Beauty from Kim Kardashian who told the New York Times (sub req) that she’s looking less at Insta-contour products and more at anti-aging formulas. Well, they do say it’s the 35-plus market that has the cash to spend. (And if that’s you, I suggest you check out Nadine Baggott’s excellent Youtube channel. Everything you wanted to know about acids, AHAs and serums but were too baffled to ask…)

That said, Selfridges is banking big on the youngsters. New  additions to its beauty hall are Huda Beauty and 3INA

Ever wondered what a freelance fashion journalist really does? This Glossy story is pretty accurate. FML

Joanna Sykes joins Nicole Farhi as creative director

I’ve just been reading all the AW12 catwalk round-ups in Elle, Grazia and Vogue. Futuristic silhouettes, seductive goth and baroque over-embellishment feature heavily but they don’t excite me on a personal level. I’m more likely to get fired up over a macho coat or the perfect cigarette trouser so today’s breaking news about Joanna Sykes’ appointment at Nicole Farhi is a biggie for me. (more…)
