While all the fashion chatter of the last two weeks has revolved around the subjects of fashion week and fashion media and their relevance in the social media age, an interesting exhibition has opened at the National Portrait Gallery to slow the conversation right down. Vogue 100: A Century of Style is a celebration of 100 years of Vogue, the iconic print magazine whose images (photos and illustrations) continue to wield huge influence on style and culture.
Why go to an exhibition showing cult Vogue images when you can see them most any day flashing up on Instagram, Tumblr or Pinterest? The answer to me is simple. (more…)
Sonia Rykiel has had a complete reboot under new creative director Geraldo da Conceição. For starters I think this AW13 ad campaign looks really fresh and strong – I love the use of illustration. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, styled by Marie Chaix and modelled by Sam Rollinson, with art direction by m/m Paris, the inspiration comes from 1950s and ’60s advertising posters. An exclusive collaboration with Avenue32, I loved this story from Avenue32’s Erin Mullaney; “we wanted to create a collectable timeless illustration for the pyjamas that was both festive and stylish. When I was a little girl, we always got to open one present on Christmas Eve and without fail, ‘Santa’ always gave us Christmas pyjamas that we would wear the whole next morning and that would be captured in photos for the rest of time!” (more…)
