Sonia Rykiel AW13 ad campaign

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Sonia Rykiel has had a complete reboot under new creative director Geraldo da Conceição. For starters I think this AW13 ad campaign looks really fresh and strong – I love the use of illustration. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, styled by Marie Chaix and modelled by Sam Rollinson, with art direction by m/m Paris, the inspiration comes from 1950s and ’60s advertising posters.

Buy it now: Posh pyjamas with a twist from Poplin

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

OHHHHHH! How fun are these posh pyjamas with a twist from Poplin? An exclusive collaboration with Avenue32, I loved this story from Avenue32’s Erin Mullaney; “we wanted to create a collectable timeless illustration for the pyjamas that was both festive and stylish. When I was a little girl, we always got to open one present on Christmas Eve and without fail, ‘Santa’ always gave us Christmas pyjamas that we would wear the whole next morning and that would be captured in photos for the rest of time!” Continue reading

Library corner: Diane Von Furstenberg And The Tale Of The Empress’s New Clothes

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

My personal highlight of this year’s Vogue Festival (which returns on 28-29 April 2013) was the Diane Von Furstenberg talk. What a woman! What incredible stories! And there’s more where they come from because Camilla Morton has just added Diane Von Furstenberg And The Tale Of The Empress’s New Clothes to her repertoire of modern fashion fairytales. Following on from Christian Lacroix And The Tale Of Sleeping Beauty and Manolo Blahnik’s The Elves And The Shoemaker, Morton has woven her version of The Emperor’s New Clothes into the legend of DVF and the making of her fashion empire. Postcards from Vogue: 100 iconic covers

Like the music industry, the publishing industry has become about selling product as well as content. So brand extensions are flourishing like nothing before. But what Vogue has is quite unique – its content is its brand extensions. It uses its incredible archive of photography, illustration and editorials to produce all manner of products, from books to beach towels. Continue reading

Beauty snippets: Nars nails, Clinique, YSL, Carol Joy, Faberge, hotel beauty

I really need to hurry up and get my hands on the Thakoon for Nars nail collection. Inspired by Indian festivals (when is Tim Walker going to do a Holi-themed shoot?), there are six of these searing bright colours to try. (Hmmm, in the UK the red is mysteriously missing…) [EDIT: OK Hafsa just pointed out in the comments that the red is exclusive to the Nars site. Clever!] Continue reading

Noma Bar illustrated covers for Wallpaper*

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Lovely 3-D murals by illustrator Noma Bar for Wallpaper magazine. As you know, I’m a huge illustration fan and it’s so rare for illustration to be used on a mainstream magazine cover. How clever for Wallpaper*/Bar to come up with a concept that marries 2-D and 3-D with such great graphic impact for the Global Design issue of the mag (8 different cover designs in total)… Continue reading
