London Fashion Week kicked off with two buzzy new names. Faustine Steinmetz showed as part of New Gen with her first presentation, a clever exploration of couture and branding, set in the suitably arty ICA.
I’m so impressed by this young designer, whose obsession for hands-on labour and figuring things out results in mind boggling textile experiments. On display were denim-look jackets of polyester styled out like Shibori (“It’s not Shibori at all! I actually handpainted it, I just like that look,” Steinmetz told me), and a jeans-n-jacket combo made from unravelled layers of upcycled denim creating a tufty fringe effect. (more…)
Another gorgeous SS13 ad campaign, this time from Club Monaco, shot by Venetia Scott. Nothing ground breaking here, just a set of Scott’s trademark ‘about a girl’ studies set in New York locations. Quietly beautiful with a very slight whiff of Marc by Marc Jacobs about it (maybe in the casting?). I love how Venetia frames the model low down in the photo with lots of space above… (more…)

The tagline ‘Be our Muse: We’re Inspired By What Inspires You’ chimes with the current democratic nature of fashion and social media and of-course, the whole photo-sharing culture of blogs and Tumblr. Wow if having my blog emblazoned on the windows of Browns isn’t a big deal then I don’t know what is. This is just a reminder for anyone gadding about the streets of W1 (or any London postcode actually) tomorrow afternoon to angle themselves in the direction of 24 South Molton Street for some chat, champagne and general zhuzhing-up action with me, Browns and Club Monaco. Next Thursday and Saturday I’ll be returning to my shop girl roots to take part in the Blogger Style Series event with Club Monaco and Browns. Browns was the boutique that every fashion obsessive worshipped when I was growing up in the late 80s – all the major (and minor-but-promising) labels were stocked there. (more…)
