ASK ALISON: IS IT A STORE OR A HOME?

Freunde-von-Freunden-Apartment 2

Here’s the latest ‘Ask Alison’ guest post from retail expert and DRG contributor, ALISON BISHOP, on how brands are merchandising their store environments to inspire customers to feel at home

More and more digital brands want to lay down physical roots and create their own permanent stores. At the same time, retailers are ramping up online sales initiatives for increasingly digitally savvy shoppers. So now we have the trend to make showroom-style spaces resemble highly curated homes and apartments. Which makes us want to buy everything and move in. (more…)

London Fashion Week SS15 highlights: Day 1

Shrimps-LFW-ss15

London Fashion Week kicked off with two buzzy new names. Faustine Steinmetz showed as part of New Gen with her first presentation, a clever exploration of couture and branding, set in the suitably arty ICA.

I’m so impressed by this young designer, whose obsession for hands-on labour and figuring things out results in mind boggling textile experiments. On display were denim-look jackets of polyester styled out like Shibori (“It’s not Shibori at all! I actually handpainted it, I just like that look,” Steinmetz told me), and a jeans-n-jacket combo made from unravelled layers of upcycled denim creating a tufty fringe effect. (more…)

Club Monaco creates all-blogger look book (and launches it on Tumblr)

Club-Monaco-fall-Tumblr-lookbook

Club Monaco was an early adopter in curating inspiring content on its ‘Culture Club’ Tumblr. From fabulous architecture to offbeat coffee shops, since 2010 it has nailed the art of curating relevant content without ramming product down our throats. Plus its Tumblr is one of the few branded Tumblrs that I follow. (BTW, my beauty Tumblr is here…) Now it has achieved another first – the first blogger-cast Tumblr lookbook and a Club Monaco-branded Tumblr theme. (more…)

Club Monaco SS13 campaign by Venetia Scott

Another gorgeous SS13 ad campaign, this time from Club Monaco, shot by Venetia Scott. Nothing ground breaking here, just a set of Scott’s trademark ‘about a girl’ studies set in New York locations. Quietly beautiful with a very slight whiff of Marc by Marc Jacobs about it (maybe in the casting?). I love how Venetia frames the model low down in the photo with lots of space above… (more…)

Club Monaco: what inspires you?

I love the casting of Club Monaco‘s look book shoots – remember Lauren Hutton for SS11? This season we also have this adorable behind-the-scenes video including interview snippets with the likes of actress Anna Brewster (loving the beret), model Sara Blomqvist and Leandra from The Man Repeller

If you’re a fan, Club Monaco has also just launched a cute social media contest where you can win a camera and some free CM swag by submitting an original photo of what inspires you via Facebook, Tumblr or email. The tagline ‘Be our Muse: We’re Inspired By What Inspires You’ chimes with the current democratic nature of fashion and social media and of-course, the whole photo-sharing culture of blogs and Tumblr. The contest is open until 11th October…

Browns Windows jpg

EVENT! Polite reminder

Wow if having my blog emblazoned on the windows of Browns isn’t a big deal then I don’t know what is. This is just a reminder for anyone gadding about the streets of W1 (or any London postcode actually) tomorrow afternoon to angle themselves in the direction of 24 South Molton Street for some chat, champagne and general zhuzhing-up action with me, Browns and Club Monaco. Event! Club Monaco for Browns Blogger Style Series

Next Thursday and Saturday I’ll be returning to my shop girl roots to take part in the Blogger Style Series event with Club Monaco and Browns. Browns was the boutique that every fashion obsessive worshipped when I was growing up in the late 80s – all the major (and minor-but-promising) labels were stocked there. (more…)
