THE DRG STYLE INDEX: BURBERRY, VALEXTRA, GUCCI, VALENTINO, FORNASETTI

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…

1. NAOMI CAMPBELL AND JOURDAN DUNN FOR BURBERRY SS15

Burberry-Naomi-Campbell-Jourdan-Dunn-Spring-Summer 2015-Campaign

Oh to be a fly on the wall of the new Burberry ss15 campaign featuring Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn. I love the colourful energy of this campaign and – note to Santa – as a key focus of the collection, the trench coats are being made available to buy from today at Burberry.com (with the rest of the collection on sale globally from January 5th).

2. VALEXTRA OPENS NEW YORK STORE

Valextra-Madison-Avenue

Well, hello sexy new Valextra New York store. A first for one of my favourite stealth-luxe brands, the Madison Avenue store aims to appeal to a US and global customer “who enjoys a private sense of luxury,” says executive director, Marco Scarpella. Valextra is raising its visibility from small, in-the-know brand to something a little more high profile. According to reports, London will see its own Valextra store next year.

3. GUCCI’S GIFT GUIDE

Gucci-gift-Guide

All tongues were a-wag about the imminent departure of Frida Giannini and Patrizio di Marco at Gucci this week (weird as the SS15 collection was my favourite for a while). But in more upbeat Gucci news, thank you Rachel Arthur for the heads up on this cute Gucci gift guide video.

4. SYNERGISTIC BRANDING: VALENTINO MEETS FORNASETTI

Valentino-Fornasetti-Collaboration

Is this the ultimate collaboration? Luxury purveyors Valentino and Fornasetti have joined forces on a capsule line mashing up their respective aesthetics. Valentino camo meets Fornasetti’s hand drawn lips – if you’re a fan of both it’s like the best kind of BOGOF (buy one get one free)…

Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2015

Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2015 coats 1

Burberry is still all about outerwear for me. The Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2015 collection is heavy on voluminous, textured coats and slim bottoms and I’m noticing a big focus on furry-looking shearlings that are casual, cosy and effortless-looking. I’m also a sucker for a too-short sleeve. Yes please. Continue reading

It’s all about the Burberry map scarf…

Much as I love the Burberry poncho, the silk map foulard is a more realistic proposition. I saw it IRL in Harrods last week (do head up to the new 6th floor Salon De Parfum by the way, it’s the ultimate olfactory experience) in the men’s department as it is indeed part of the Burberry Prorsum men’s AW14 collection.

At the show it was loosely tied over both shoulders, but what I like about this scarf is how thin and therefore malleable, it is. Continue reading

London Fashion Week SS15 highlights: Day 4

Thomas-Tait-ss15-Georges Rousse

The answer to the question “why do we still need fashion shows?” was answered succinctly on Monday with Thomas Tait’s powerpacked, techno-soundtracked stomper of a show. Fashion shows need emotion, energy and feeling in order to express something these days, the clothes are only part of the story. And so Tait created tension and anticipation in his concrete box of a location, with walls painted in collaboration with artist Georges Rousse setting an intriguing scene. Continue reading

Burberry’s personalised ponchos

It’s barely September and already Burberry Prorsum-esque blanket ponchos are all over the high street. How much faster can fashion get? Burberry has a card up its sleeve though, in the form of its monogramming service, which kicks off this week. Continue reading

But it now: Burberry blankets

I’m all about blanket dressing for AW14. Any self-respecting Brit has a stack of thick check blankets for hibernating under or arranging just-so on beds and sofas. So why not just go the next step and dress yourself in one?

Burberry Prorsum’s seasonal masterstroke was swathing all its models in a blanket poncho for the show finale, complete with monogram. And then gifting its favourite influencers with the same. Continue reading

Gentlewoman style: Handsome red

Spring pastels and summer neons may come and go but rich, handsome red never gets old. For starters, I love simple red sweaters, both for wearing and for tying round waists or shoulders.

Next, red leather accessories have a lovely nostalgic feel – Anya Hindmarch in particular has nailed it with her delicious two-way journal (which can be embossed with initials to personalise). Continue reading

London Fashion Week AW13: Day four highlights

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

It’s always weird when you see big trends emerging seemingly from nowhere. Part of it is wishing things into existence. I’ll always try to make huge fluffy mohair jumpers and mannish coats a ‘thing’ if it means people will make more of them and keep me well-stocked. In the last four days I’ve definitely seen my fair share of fluffy knits and gigantic coats, plus lots of shiny PVC/patent leather, flared skirts, fur, geometric layering and posh camo patterns. Continue reading

Burberry Prorsum SS12 pre-collection

Posted on by Disneyrollergirl

Burberry got royally slated for its AW11 collection but personally I rather liked its beatniky 60s slant. And I like the SS12 pre-collection even more. I’m glad Christopher Bailey has moved on from the severely abbreviated dresses of the past few collections. Continue reading
