Good and bad taste? It’s a load of baloney!

Guest post: The newly-launched ‘& Other Stories’ celebrates individual (street) style

No-one does the high street better than the Brits, except possibly the Swedes! Well, H&M in particular. Launching today is H&M’s new brand, & Other Stories. Here’s the verdict from guest contributor, LSN Global retail editor, ALISON BISHOP

So, the new retail concept & Other Stories by H&M has finally launched (in London first, natch), and it seems there is room for another fashion retail concept on the high street. & Other Stories lives up to its premium product pitch in terms of ‘style over fast-fashion’. (more…)

Quote of the day: Anna Sui on Antonio Lopez

“It’s not about fabulous anymore. It’s about having 500 friends on Facebook and the same American Apparel outfit to wear to a festival. It was kind of the opposite then. Freak was the preferred genre.”
Anna Sui in Guy Trebay’s excellent New York Times piece on Antonio Lopez

Other things I learnt:
Rizzoli is publishing the monograph, Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex & Disco by Mauricio and Roger Padilha next week

The next major MAC make-up campaign will be inspired by Lopez’ illustrations and coterie of fabulous friends

Bill Cunningham and Antonio Lopez were BFFs and studio neighbours

Bill Cunningham New York is here!

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I saw a preview of Bill Cunningham New York and loved it. I put it in the same bracket as Vidal Sassoon The Movie and Diana Vreeland The Eye Has To Travel (which will hopefully be released at the end of this year); all three films are sensitive portrayals of passionate creatives who have led fascinating lives with grace and charm.

The film is now on general release in the UK and Ireland. You can see screening dates and times here.
