Shop report: The Shop At Bluebird

These photos are long overdue from a wee tour of The Shop At Bluebird in March. Owned by Belle Robinson, this lifestyle store is possibly my favourite shop in London, God knows I bang on about it enough.

The space is huge and masterfully merchandised so that there’s always something unexpected and exciting for your eyes to rest on. I also really like the mix of brands – from the obvious of-the-moment names like Carven, Marni and Chloe, to under-the-radar jewellery names like Maria Nilsdotter. “Our clients are so fashion savvy in a very lovely way but we’re challenged as buyers because they constantly expect us to introduce them to new labels!” sales manager and buyer, Leanne Walsh told me. Amongst their best selling labels are Osman, Paul Smith, Helmut Lang and – this surprised me – Medham Kirchhoff.

“Osman has his own client base and they’re so loyal. They’re art based and they like him because his clothes are sculptural and colourful. Helmut Lang caters everything for everyone and the jersey fits like a dream. Paul Smith is incredible for us; when it’s the right product, price is no barrier,” reeled off Walsh. On Meadham Kirchhoff she said, “we buy their key pieces and they’ve got a massive following. I’m wearing a Meadham Kirchhoff shirt that I wore to the Elle Style Awards but I also wear it to receive deliveries!”

Another thing I love about The Shop At Bluebird is how they use the vast space to create ever-changing installations, especially to showcase some of the smaller brands. “If we’re going to launch a brand that’s quite new, we like to do a big thing for them to give them great support,” said Walsh. There’s a launch for exactly one such brand tonight, so I’ll do a separate post later in the week…
