On my radar: round toe shoes

Gianvito Rossi aw15

When you do the rounds of press days in April and October, you get a very clear sense of the trends that are going to push through for the season. The designers have done their bit, the stores have bought the commercial sellers, and then the PRs do their own edit to show the press. As an editor, if you can’t spot the winners by then, you need to try harder.

For AW15, we’re going to see a ton of round toe shoes. Sharp, pointed toes will still be ongoing, but designers have exhausted those, so this time around we’ll see an abundance of almond-toe dancing shoes (I love Gianvito Rossi’s lace variety, above, and Dolce & Gabbana’s bedazzled versions – available here), sensible bow pumps (Ferragamo-esque ones from Tabitha Simmonsavailable here) and multi-buckled Mary Janes (also at Tabitha Simmons – very Westwood, available here). Mary Katrantzou’s velvet Mary Janes mix extreme chunky wedges with delicate thin straps (below).

To avoid looking too twee, I like these worn with textured or printed ankle-crop cigarette pants (from Miu Miu or J. Crew), accessorised with tweedy socks fpr added eccentricity. And I like how the heels here are fairly chunky and straight, rather than slender and dainty.
