On my radar: The V&A Reading Rooms

Thanks to my good friend Hips Like Boys for alerting me to the V&A Reading Rooms. I love a bookshop, especially a browse-friendly one, and even more especially a fashion-design-art one. Claire de Rouen and Koenig Books in Charing Cross Road are my first choices for book porn but tend to be a bit, er compact, for extended browsing.

According to London Design Guide, the V&A Reading Rooms (which opened last November) stock out of print, vintage and early editions alongside the V&A’s own list of art and design books. The best bit is there is also a bar so you can quaff wine or coffee while discussing the merits of Dior vs Balenciaga.

V&A Reading Rooms, 8 Exhibition Rd, SW7. 12pm-10pm, 7 days a week

  1. I had no idea this was here. I’m afraid if I go in, I’ll never leave. So, see you there. x

  2. Kate says:

It looks wonderful, a bit like the shop Merci in Paris. I don’t think I’d leave either!

  3. Madeleine says:

I’ve been meaning to go here since it opened, thanks for the reminder! It’s such a great collaboration of loves…

  4. How lovely – and why haven’t I been there?

  5. Khatija says:

This looks amazing! I love a good book and have been feeling quite guilty lately as I have kind of abandoned reading and I don’t even have work as an excuse, I’ve just become lazy and I get distracted by silly things. Can I share my quote of the week “Now, 75 years later in an abundant society where people have laptops, cell phones, iPods and minds like empty rooms, I still plod along with books.” Harper Lee (my hero!). This kind of inspired me to start reading again!

I am Not A Celebrity and Kate: See you in there, it appears I may be going tomorrow!

Madeleine: thank you for your lovely comment on my other post :)

That’s Not My Age: See you in there tomorrow!

Khatija: Same. Shameful isn’t it? (I blame Twitter myself.)
