Mr Porter collaborates with young British designers for London Collections: Men

Today, the second day of London Collections: Men, saw the release of Mrporter.com’s commercial collaboration to support independent British designers. Katie Eary, Sibling, Richard Nicoll and Matthew Miller each created three exclusive pieces for Mr Porter and every one of them is a thing of beauty.

Mr Porter tends to veer towards the classic gent; it doesn’t generally get too trendy and this works really well with the chosen designers. Sibling’s signature animal patterns offered in a basic T-shirt shape or their ‘twisted twinset’ are the simplest incarnation of their bold style. The shapes are utterly wearable but the patterns a little bit daring (if you’re the understated type). Likewise with Katie Eary’s skate-inspired sweatshirt and tees. I’m told lairy print tees sell like hot cakes on Mr Porter (Givenchy‘s have been known to sell out in seconds) but a loud print on challenging proportions might be too much at once. So I don’t know if all the designers were briefed to keep their shapes simple but either way it all works together quite wonderfully. Plus – bonus! – these sporty, untailored pieces in small sizes tend to look just as good on a girl. Just sayin’…
