Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS13: Berluti

Berluti SS13

My first men’s Paris Fashion Week was a wheeze of shows, presentations, exhibitions, parties and a tiny bit of shopping. Plus lots of people-watching outside cafes, drinking coffee and wafting pretend cigarettes. One of the most impressive presentations was the Berluti event in the lush Jardin du Palais Royal, I mean just look at the photos… The setting was bedazzling, with a maze to enter through before emerging in a succession of tableaux of gentlemanly living beautifully illuminated with cinematic lighting. Talk about attention to detail to the nth degree. Berluti, traditionally a bespoke footwear brand is being repositioned as a ready-to-wear menswear player.

One of the reasons I wanted to do Paris menswear was to experience the growth of the menswear industry first hand. And this was it, an extravaganza of ultimate good taste to underscore the firm intentions of LVMH in the menswear arena. Talking of LVMH, every other bag we spotted on the guests was a Vuitton of some sort, and there was much clucking over the first sighting of a Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton bag. Feast your eyes…
