London Fashion Week AW11: Day 5 highlights

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SAVAGE BEAUTY press conference. The 830am start at The Ritz nearly killed me but it was worth it for the grandeur of the setting and the emotive strains of Michael Nyman’s The Heart Asks Pleasure First from The Piano (a favourite tune of Alexander McQueen’s).


From the Ritz to Old Billingsgate Market, to witness Mary Katrantzou show an outstanding collection that pushed her passion for print on print to the limit. A continuation of her last collection, there was more structure, proportion play, embellishment and the introduction of knitwear. A close-up look post-show revealed the extent of the workmanship – in particular, a heavily embellished dress encrusted with 3-D roses. Plus don’t miss the custom, studded Louboutins…
