If you go down to Harrods today…

Need a good reason to go to Harrods? Of course you do. Well here’s one: Valentino has created it’s very own pop-up shop to celebrate the unstoppable cult of the Rockstud. In situ until the end of the month, the Rockstud Rouge pop-up sells bags and shoes adorned with the famous pyramid studs, amid a selection of Valentino AW13 RTW in the expected shade of crimson. (Can I point out that the walls are studded as well…)

It bags may come and go but the Rockstud is in another league altogether. According to Harrods chief merchant Marigay McKee, “it has dominated the accessories market, growing in demand since its launch.” In particular, the classic totes and T-bar shoes with Rockstud detailing are big sellers for Harrods while the Rockstud flats are considered a weekend essential. But why?

“They appeal to all ages, embodying the elegant and modern aesthetic of Valentino,” says McKee. “And they continues to be re-invented, with new fabrications and styles. The introduction of the lacquered studs and metallic crystals has propelled sales and interest, whilst publicity around style influencers pictured wearing the collection continues to drive demand.”

McKee is certainly banking on the pop-up to drive serious sales. To prove it there’s an exclusive Rouge Crystal Tote bag smothered in red metallic crystals going for a not-too-shabby £5,110. Any takers?

This bibliophile heaven snuck in last week and stocks the usual coffee table tomes (don’t miss the trio of Chanel books packaged in their very own tweed jacket) as well as candles and objets…
